![]() ![]() Here is the first hymn from the Rig Veda:ġ I Laud Agni, the chosen Priest, God, minister of sacrifice,Ģ Worthy is Agni to be praised by living as by ancient seers. The Rig Veda is the oldest of them and it consists of 1,028 Vedic Sanskrit hymns and 10,600 verses in all, organized into ten books. The others are Yajur Veda or Yahurveda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda. Yavana is hence here, an adaptation of Javana, and a Vedic term referring to any great monarch, or peoples that migrated fast defeating others. ![]() Pijavana also means (like Yavana), ‘one who speeds’ or a fast mover. It is counted among the four canonical sacred texts of Hinduism known as the Vedas. In the Rig Veda, King Sudas is called Paijavana (VII.18.21-25), ‘Son of Pijavana’. Rig Veda or ‘Rigveda’ means praise/verse of knowledge.
